Misplaced pass
The pass doesn't connect – counter-attack for the opponent.
Your pass gets intercepted and the fast break is on. Your immediate reset is an on-court action, not a breathing exercise or an explanation.
What can help you right now
- 1Get back and match up according to your retreat plan. See who's open; don't stop for a personal routine.
- 2At the next break in play, tell yourself: 'Bad pass, new job now.'
- 3Make yourself available again on the next attack. Pick your pass based on open space and team plans, not to make up for a mistake.
Here's what that can look like in handball
The pass to the pivot is cut out. Sprint back instead of shouting an explanation to the line. Sort out at half-time whether it was the run or the timing that was off.
For your next training session
Practise the pass with that teammate in a suitable game drill. Focus on eye contact and timing, not just on whose fault it was.
How you can bring it up
'I thought you were making your run earlier. What cue should we use next time?'
Things you don't have to deal with alone
One misplaced pass doesn't make you unreliable. If you stop showing for the ball afterwards, bring that up in training.
