Mistakes

Shot missed

Open shot, goes wide or to the goalkeeper.

You had a chance and missed. Maybe after that, all you want to do is pass. Focus on that single moment, not on sweeping statements like 'I never score'.

What can help you right now

  1. 1First react to possession and tracking back. You don't need to break down the missed shot right now.
  2. 2If you can clearly spot a mistake, name one detail: 'I was hesitant on take-off.' If not, don't force the analysis.
  3. 3On the next chance, read the game: shoot, pass, or keep moving. Your job is neither hiding away nor forcing a shot.

Here's what that can look like in handball

You miss from the wing. On the next attack, make your run again. Whether you shoot depends on the chance, not on trying to make up for the miss.

For your next training session

Talk through a shot with your coach and practise that specific part of the movement. Take away one clear cue, not a list of technical rules all at once.

How you can bring it up

'After that missed shot, I'm second-guessing myself. What part of my decision was right, and what can I work on with my finishing?'

Things you don't have to deal with alone

A mental tip won't tell you which shooting option makes tactical sense. Ask your coach for guidance on that.
